16 days...

Today, we stopped by Alin Party Supplies to see if we could find some Unity Candles. The lady at the store was kind of helpful, but hey, at least she was nice and tried. However she told us about Unity Sand. I guess you have 2 small glasses of sand with different colors and then the bride and groom pour it into a bigger glass to combine the two colors... Interesting concept. She said it's really popular... but unfortunately, it's not my cup of tea.

17 days...

I know that I'm missing day 18.

But the whole issue with the hair is what I've been dealing with. Lol.

As for today, Rico and I went to pick up my dress from David's Bridal. Unfortunately, I didn't bring anything with me so I will have to try it on later with all my bra and shoes and stuff and see how it fits. If it is too big, I gotta take it back in.

Also, Rico reminded me that Jennifer (our florist) was supposed to send me drawings within the week that we met with her. I need to call her and see what's going on because I never got the drawings.

Scammed...

For those who know me, you would know that I am one to never keep my hairstyle the same for too long. I get bored and go off to my hair salon to do something… ANYTHING to make it different!! So here begins my horrible drama-fo-yo-mama deal.

Since we live near the Lakewood Mall, Rico and I would frequent there.

During one of our visits, a man by the name of Rafael approached me. He worked for a kiosk named “Elite Extensions” made by Herstyler. He sold these clip-in hair extensions. And of course, being the person who buys wigs and gets extensions, I immediately loved the idea of these clip-in extensions because then I can change up my hairstyle whenever I pleased!

Rafael razzle-dazzled me as he put in the clip-in extensions of real human hair. My hair looked long and it was so fun and different! I liked it! However, at that time, Rico and I had to pass up on the deal because it was something that we couldn’t afford at the time. So Rafael gave me a business card with the hair colors that were more appropriate for my hair and his name.

Well, since it’s getting close to our wedding date, I was trying to figure out what kind of hair style I wanted. Jenny told me I should go with something that I will look back from the future and not think “Oh god, wth was I thinking when I picked that hair!?” Well with my current hairstyle, I don’t think I could possibly style it to make me not say that… so I remembered the hair extensions! Rico agreed that it wasn’t a bad idea.

So on Sunday, January 25, 2009, we went back over to the Lakewood Mall so that I could finally purchase those clip-in hair extensions… Only to find that the kiosk was gone! It no longer existed!! Rico and I walked around just a little bit just to make sure it was really gone. I was a little disappointed but then I remembered that a new location recently opened up inside the Cerritos Mall near Macy’s.

So we rushed over there and found it. The girl who helped us was Illianna. I took out the business card I had from Rafael and she looked at it and said “Oh… yeah. They shut down because they were caught selling fake hair.”

I was in shock! Rafael told me it was real hair and he was able to use a flat iron on it! I know that fake hair cannot withstand the heat of flat/curling irons… so I asked her “They can make synthetic hairs that can style like real hair?”

“Yeah, they can.” She replied.

“Well that sucks.” I commented.

“Also, he was telling everyone who bought from them that they can exchange at any location but the truth is you can only exchange it from the location you bought your product from… but our manager, Shiran, is very nice and she’s trying to accommodate everyone who bought from them because she feels bad.” She added.

“Oh… is that right? Okay.” I shrugged it off.

She had me sit down on the chair and then she proceeded to put the clip-in extensions in my hair that was made from real human hair.

I really liked it… I mean… I REALLY, REALLY liked it.

I loved the idea of being able to change my look with so much ease with just these clip-in extensions.

So she told me the cost was $270 after tax for one box of hair which came with 7 pieces. ( I needed two because I have so much hair.)

I asked her if she could do it for $500 if I paid cash.

Illianna then said she would call her manager to verify. She called and asked her manager, Shiran, and she Okayed the price for $500.

So she wrote out on a one of these really generic, carbon paper receipt books for a receipt. In the fields located on the receipt all she put was her name and for the address: Cerritos. On the description, she put the hair color that I bought and the price.

That was it… that was my receipt.

She then attached the receipt to my “warranty” paper with tape because she was out of staples. She also gave me a business card and put her name and phone number on the backside of the card and put it with the “warranty” paper.

She then proceeded to explain that the paper was my “warranty” paper and I just needed to bring it in with the receipt and that I would have a 5 year warranty at the Cerritos location. I nodded and handed over the cash.

When I got in the car and drove off, I noticed that I she also gave me another business card that was blank on the back and that I still had the old one from Rafael. I looked at both and compared them side-by-side and noticed that they had the exact same phone number… It was so weird to me that Illianna told me that the Lakewood mall’s kiosk was shut down for shady, unethical business and yet the Cerritos Location and the Lakewood Location share the same number.

So on Monday, I proceeded to check online for information on the company and even visited the manufacturer’s website,
http://herstyler.com.

Herstyler, the manufacturer of the Elite Extensions clip-in hair extension only has a 1 year warranty. So I Googled the company and found nothing by complaints and bad reviews on the company from different cities and states.

What made me feel really scammed were not the reviews….

I was rather upset after reading the reviews and was trying not to think about it… but last night, a feeling kept nagging at me so I woke up and took out the “warranty” paper with the receipt and business card. I looked over the paper and tried to find something… anything written about a warranty.

And I found nothing about a warranty at all on that piece of “warranty” paper. Instead I found myself reading about how to care for my product and also why Elite Extension is the way to go. I couldn’t even find the manufacturer’s warranty disclaimer…

Whether the hair is real or not isn’t the case… to me it’s the principle of the matter. How can I believe that the particular kiosk that sold me the hair will be there even a year from now, none the less 5 year from now… Especially when Illianna told me that I can’t get my 5 year warranty granted at any other location…?

So today, Rico and I will go back to the mall and ask for a refund. Simply put, I am not satisfied with the product nor am I satisfied with the business morals and ethics of the company.

If they refuse then we will take it to the small claims court.

*Sigh*

Why am I such a dummy and fall for these infomercial-esque deals so easily?

And with this... this is why I feel as if I got completed scammed.

Note: I should add that the salesgirl, Illianna never mentioned anything, not once, about a return policy, nor did she explain it to me, have me sign anything about me understanding their return policy nor was it anywhere on the papers she gave to me after I made my purchase. She never said "Exchanges Only" or "All Sales are Final"...

One thing she did mention is that they will exchange out the hair if I dye my hair or my hair color changes to match my current hair color... no questions asked.

So yeah... One can only hope...

20 days...

Yesterday, we had a photoshoot with Jeff. We found Jeff through Tina!

We were worried that it would rain but thankfully it didn't!

We drove up to Sierra Madre to meet Tina and Jeff at Tina's store then off we went!

We first went to the Railroad museum... but we got kicked out because we didn't have permits... which totally sucks because it totally fit our outfits!! So then we drove around to some brewery place and got pretty much done with our photoshoot because we got kicked out again because we needed a permit there too! Hahaha, fun time. Either way, it was fun! Though I also felt really weird because they would tell us to be "romantic" and I'm would think to myself "ROMANTIC? WTF is romantic?!"

I can't wait to see the pictures later today~

And then we all went to Garden Cafe. There, we met up with Jenny, David and a couple who are friends of Tina and David. I had the Chicken and Salted Fish Fried Rice. It was pretty good but when I got home, I was feeling pretty sick... I had pretty bad indigestion and I wanted to throw up but I just forced myself to sleep instead and woke up this morning feeling better.

Today, I get to go pick up my dress! Yay! It's slowly all coming together now...

21 days...

Today, we went and bought gifts for our bridal party... Well at least for mine. We bought the groomsmens' gifts earlier this week online! Yay for the internet!

We also bought the unity lasso/rosary and the coins that will be used in the ceremony. Unfortuately, we weren't able to see any Unity Candles... Suprisingly, Rico's dad said we could find some at Allen Party Supplies, but we could probably get a better deal from Cotters... But I guess we'll go take a look anyway. However, we are definitely going to go back to this store so that we can buy something for Rico's parents as a gift!

Then I went to Jenny's place just to talk and I picked up the sashes for Alice and Mia.

Today, hopefully we'll get to go on the photoshoot.

Invitathon

So I just want to say that one of the most difficult things of the wedding planning process is deciding who to invite. It seems easy enough if you have money to burn but it is very difficult when working on a budget. We are grateful that we can invite as many people as we have been able to and regret that we can't invite everyone who has made an impact on our lives. That being said, I am relieved that everyone has been gracious in understanding who we can and cannot invite to the wedding. We're taking a week off of work after the wedding so there is plenty of time to party with everyone! OMG 3 weeks left.

23 days...

Today, I went to Sephora to buy some Bare Minerals blemish make-up.

Due to a stupid diet I did several years ago, my once near-clear skin is now infested with horriblen blemishes and redness. I was looking online to see what might help. I found that Bare Minerals has this product line called RareMinerals to help your skin... and since I love their make-up I decided to give it a try. I hope it'll at least help reduce break-outs and remove the current acne I have in time for the ceremony.

Here's to hoping!

24 days...

Not much today! Just rearranged my hotel reservation and printed more invitations to hand deliver!

25 days...

So yesterday, Rico and I drove to the church to meet with Pop in regards to the coins and the lasso. Unfortunately the person who was supposed to bring them forgot. We also had a brief talk with Father Larry and it seems that everything is pretty much set.

Oh, we also tried this sushi place yesterday called I Luv Sushi... Yeah, not so great. I also tried Red Mango for the first time. Not so great either.

I finally got to sleep early though I woke up several times. It felt good to get some sleep!

26 days...

Behind by one day!

Well yesterday we met up with Tina and went over various things that needed to be looked over.

We went to the church so Tina could see what it looked like and what could be done. Then we took her over to IMP so she can look over the reception area so she could get more thoughts and idea on the place.

Then afterwards we headed over to Delightful Crepes in LB and ate there while we discussed our checklist.

And sure enough, we had all the major points on the checklist filled out!

Tina also suggested that we write down a list of responsibilities for individual people and letting them know what we expect of them.

And finally, we went over a Timeline for the Day-of. I get tired just thinking about it. @_@;;

We also went to Burlington Coat Factory to find some miscellaneous stuff.

That pretty much was it. Rico and I were exhausted by the end of the day.

Tonight, we will be going to church to pick out the coin and lasso for our ceremony.

27 days...

So in my hurry to find a cake, I was consulting Tina.

Thankfully she turned me towards King's Hawaiian Bakery. I never thought of them!

So after getting the email from her with all the prices, I skimmed over their website to see what time they close. Noticing that they close at 11PM, I called around 9:30PM to see if they had any openings and sure enough they were able to see us at 12:00PM today.

I headed over to King's Hawaiian with Rico and tried 4 different cakes: vanilla chiffon with fresh strawberries, dobash, dream and peach bavarian. Rico and I liked all except dream because it just seemed like a less flavorful version of the dobash.

In the end, we went with a vanilla chiffon with strawberry perserves. It was simple, not too sweet, light and just delicious. By the way, their frosting is good too! I don't normally like frosting on cake, but this was just TOO good!

So, we got a 3 tier cake with smooth frosting. There will be red ribbons and calla lilies on it as well. Simple and clean. Just how I like it!

Oh, they will deliver the cake too! Of course I had to pay for it but they guarantee the cake. So if something happens to the cake they will get one to us pronto for the event. If we had to pick it up or if someone picked it up for us then the moment the cake goes out the door, they would not be held liable for the cake! (Scary!)

So, another thing marked off the list! Yay!

28 days...

It was fun hanging out with Mia and Alice today! Met up Alice at 9AM for some breakfast and quick game of catch-up before we went over to David's Bridal to try on some bridesmaid dresses!

Mia joined us and we got down and through it pretty fast!

Unfortunately the shawl I wanted wasn't available but thankfully it was at the Brea location and Jenny was able to pick them up for us.

And then the wild goose chase... THE SHOES!!!

We went from Macys, Nordstroms, Bakers, Cathy Jean, Aldo and Nine West... Nine West had the LOOK we wanted but not in the color... SAD.

Well another day. But for now I am happy we were able to get the dresses. :)

29 days...

I am so exhausted. After going to bed nearly at 3:00AM... I found myself awake at 7:00AM. So I got up and just showered and got ready to go to visit the florist.

So we met with a very sweet and nice lady from In Flower (http://www.inflower.us/).

Just looking over her website should be enough for you to know that both Rico and I absolutely loved her. Not only that but she was highly attentive, she was patient and didn't rush us at all. She gave her input and was very accommodating. And her store is just absolutely adorable. Just being in the store definitely highlighted her strong points.

We are very happy with her!

So, flowers.... CHECK!

30 Days...

So today, I went to visit a Korean Florist and had the most horrific experience ever.

Even though I am getting married on Valentine's Day does not mean I want to hear the employee/owner or whoever babble on asking WHY my wedding had to be on V-Day.

When I told the lady when I needed my wedding flowers, she immediately retorted with "Ugh, even though it's flowers for a wedding, it's not welcoming to hear that it's on Valentine's Day."

WTF?!?!

There are reasons that it was on V-Day and I don't expect the person to understand. All I wanted to know was if the person could do the flowers or not. I don't think I am obligated to spill my life story that will result with "so this is why it's on Valentine's Day..."

The lady was very wishy-washy and told me what I wanted didn't look good... and barely gave any suggestions... and even when she did give me suggestions, she seemed so unsure on what she was trying to convey that I wanted to punch her.

In the end, it resulted with her telling me we needed to wrap things up because it was past 7 and she needed to close the store since it was past store closing hours... and she also told me that her wedding designer was on vacation and she said that the wedding designer would be back next week... then changed her mind and told me she was unsure exactly when she would be returning... so she asked me to leave my phone number and that she would call me back when the designer did return... and she made sure to throw in another mumble of "Why on Valentine's day....?" along with "Don't give your business to somewhere else! Come back to us and we will give you a good deal!"

By the end of our short 10 minute meeting, I was frustrated and annoyed. Thankfully, no one got hurt and we left in a hurry from that store.

On a side note, Rico and I met with Susan Sabo (http://www.susansabophotography.com/) last night. After talking to her over dinner and going through her printed portfolio, we decided that she was the one for us!

Also, Rico and I went to IMP with Mom and put a deposit on the reception venue.

Slowly, it seems to be slowly coming together.

P.S. Why the heck are flowers so expensive????

31 Days...

So, I decided to write down my daily experiences as Rico and I have exactly one month until our wedding on Valentine's Day...

The day was booked and written down on January 10th, 2009. We weren't expecting it to be in one month!! But the 7th is Jayden's First Birthday party and the 21st was Jordan's First Birthday party... and here we were, thinking to ourselves a few weeks ago that we can have a relaxing V-day and just chill and play games all day...

NOT ANYMORE! LOL.

So since Saturday this is what we got done:
-Bought a Dress
-Decided on reception site
-Went into fitting for the dress
-Booked engagement photos
-Bought matching wedding bands
-Bought, printed and mailed out invitations... though there are still some that need to be hand delivered
-Booked a hotel room
-Made an appt. to meet a florist.
-Met a WONDERFUL coordinator who is helping me TONS out of the goodness of her own heart. (http://inthecloudsevents.wordpress.com)
-Asked girls I wanted to be in my bridal party
-Had Rico ask the guys he wanted to be in his bridal party
-Set up an idea of the tux for Rico
-Picked up DIY program kits
-Picked up DIY place cards
-Called people to let them know to keep V-day open in the day time and informed them an informal invitation would be sent to them
-Went over flower ideas with Tina, the Wedding Coordinator
-Decided on the guest list and finalized it
-Booked hairstylist
-Borrowed shoes and veil
-Bought bra and slip
-Set up rehersal time and dinner place.

There is still a lot more I need to get done... but Tina is on top of it all and seriously bless her. She is providing wonderful tips that I would have not known myself.

And today, we will be meeting with our potential photographer. Her stuff is just lovely. (http://www.susansabophotography.com/)

Whew. I am beat just thinking about the past few days.
